Shirley Haughenberry Quackenbush

I was a busy mother involved in my children's activities in sports and school. After the children were raised I went back into the work world and did bookkeeping for different firms. All the while acquiring single family homes to lease. I have had the pleasure of remodeling several homes and interior design of those homes. My husband and I love to travel and have been fortunate to have been to many countries as well as all but 3 states in the United States. I hope to see those states in the next year. My husband and I both like to dance and spend time at our lake property on most weekends. If I were to have dreamed of life after Center I could not have envisioned a better life.

I started school in the Center district in the fourth grade at South City View in 1955. I loved the many friends I made and the opportunities to try many different things while at Center. Drama was a favorite and I was fond of the Home economic classes as well. Pep club and all the sporting events were one of the favorite pastimes. I guess Mr Smith who was my History teacher in 7th grade gave me a love of History and I have been able to experience many interesting trips to historic places in the USA.
Bob & I have been to 18 presidential homes and libraries and many national parks. I love to write stories and I credit both Miss Hall in 6th grade as well as Mrs Bricker in 7th for their encouragement. I still think it is important to learn something new everyday.

My greatest career choice was to be a home economist and work for Better Crocker. My second choice was to be a mother. I think I fulfilled both of those dreams to some extent. I love to cook and so it for others as well as family. And my best accomplishment was as a mother and spouse.
